How to Create and Print a Shipping Label (4x6 Thermal & A4) Free
A clear shipping label gets your parcel to the customer without delay or return. You can make one for free in a minute with our shipping label generator, and print it on a thermal printer or a normal A4 printer.
What a good shipping label shows
- Ship to: the receiver's full name, address, landmark, city, state and 6-digit PIN code.
- Phone number of the receiver. Couriers call before delivery.
- Return address (From) in case the parcel cannot be delivered.
- Courier name and AWB (tracking) number with a barcode that scanners can read. See what is an AWB number.
- Payment mode: Prepaid or COD with the exact amount to collect. See COD tips for sellers.
- Order number, weight, size and contents for your own records.
- Handling marks such as Fragile or This Side Up.
Step by step: make the label
- Open the shipping label generator.
- Enter the receiver details. Your return address is saved in your browser for next time.
- Add the courier, AWB number, order number and weight.
- Choose Prepaid or COD and enter the amount if COD.
- Select the size, then press Preview to check it.
- Press Download PDF.
Which label size should you choose?
| Size | Best for |
|---|---|
| 4 ร 6 inch | Thermal label printers (the common courier label size) |
| A6 (105 ร 148 mm) | Printing one label on A6 paper or sticker sheets |
| A4 sheet with 4 labels | Normal office printers. Print, cut along the dotted lines and paste |
Printing tips
- In the print dialog choose Actual size / 100%, not "Fit to page".
- For thermal printers, set the paper size to 4 ร 6 inch.
- Print in black. Light colours do not scan reliably.
- Test the barcode with a scanner or your courier pickup person before printing a large batch.
- Cover the label with clear tape so it survives rain and rubbing.
- Paste the label flat on the largest side, away from seams and corners.
Many parcels at once
Use Add to batch in the tool to collect labels for different customers and download them all in one PDF.
When to use a courier's own label
If you ship through an aggregator or a courier app that provides its own label, use that one, since its barcode is tied to the booking. Our generator is ideal for self-delivery, local couriers, India Post bookings and your own packing slips.
