How to Write an Interior Design Quotation (Format, Rates & Tips)
Interior design projects have many moving parts. A good quotation separates design fees, materials, labour and finishing so the client understands where the money goes and does not feel surprised halfway through.
How to structure the quote
- Design fee: consultation, 2D layout, 3D renders, drawings. Charge as a fixed amount or as a percentage of project cost.
- Civil and electrical work: demolition, plumbing, wiring points.
- Carpentry: wardrobes, modular kitchen, TV unit, beds, usually per square foot with material specified (for example BWP plywood with laminate).
- False ceiling and lighting.
- Painting and wall finishes.
- Flooring, furniture and soft furnishings.
- Project management and supervision.
Sample lines
| Item | Unit | Qty | Rate | GST |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Design consultation and 3D layout | Job | 1 | โน25,000 | 18% |
| Modular kitchen (laminate finish) | Sq ft | 120 | โน1,350 | 18% |
| Wardrobe with sliding doors | Sq ft | 60 | โน1,200 | 18% |
| Gypsum false ceiling | Sq ft | 400 | โน95 | 18% |
These are example rates only. Rates vary a lot by city and material, so use your own costing.
Be specific about materials
"Plywood" is not enough. Mention thickness, grade, brand, laminate make, hardware brand and finish. Most disputes come from "I thought it would be a better quality."
Payment stages
A common structure is an advance on booking, then payments at design approval, material delivery, completion of carpentry and handover. Put the percentages in the quote. See payment terms and clauses.
Handle changes
State that changes after approval are charged separately and may affect the timeline. Use a revised quotation for every change so the final bill matches what was agreed.
